Martin Stadtfeld

Music has a very direct effect on us humans. Simple harmonies can trigger something in each of us. Therefore, music stands for humanity, for universal feelings such as comfort, hope – and also a constant confrontation with ourselves.

Martin Stadtfeld

Already at the age of seven, Martin Stadtfeld's career aspirations were clear: concert pianist. Early on, he explores the rules and secrets of counterpoint and harmony; as a young student, he joins the class of Lev Natochenny in Frankfurt and wins first prizes in Paris and at the Busoni Competition in Bolzano.
The sensational victory at the Leipzig Bach Competition in 2002 became the starting point of a career that led Martin Stadtfeld to the most important festivals and the important concert halls and orchestras.

Over the last two decades recitals with the music of Bach, the sonatas of Beethoven, German Romanticism and orchestral invitations with piano concertos ranging from Mozart to Rachmaninoff have taken Martin Stadtfeld all over the world.

During this time, he recorded 26 CDs for Sony Classical, which were award-winning and celebrated by international critics. Again and again, the music of Johann Sebastian Bach is represented in this impressive discography. Recordings of the Goldberg Variations, the Well-Tempered Piano, the music of the young Bach emerge. At the same time, this intensive occupation points the way to recordings of Chopin's Etudes, works by Mozart and Beethoven and German Romanticism that cast a new light upon this music.

So it almost inevitably happens that the courage for personal interpretation also leads to own compositions and free arrangements. Handel Variations, Piano Songbook, Homage to Bach, German Folksongs,  Genesis and  Baroque Colours are titles that make Martin Stadtfeld's very personal engagement with music come alive: on CDs, as a stream, but also as sheet music, which is published with great success by Schott Music.

In addition, Martin Stadtfeld has been committed to music education for many years: Countless visits to schools, concerts for children and young people, CD radio plays to help children and adults enter the world of classical music are testimony to this. Martin Stadtfeld will now use his broad experience as a professor for piano at the University of the Arts in Bremen.
